A thin FMCSA file: census status, and no SMS snapshot
A thin file is census status with no SMS snapshot on the unlocked dossier. An empty snapshot is not a score. The dossier is $35 once, or Broker Pro at $129/mo.
You already have the USDOT. A thin file means census identity and no SMS snapshot. Power units and the driver count, on the unlocked dossier, are context, not a score.
What a thin file shows
A missing SMS snapshot means no compliance snapshot is on file yet. That empty file is not a passing score. The public search still shows the legal name, USDOT, MC number when one is on file, city and state, and census status. The five category marks on that result stay empty. They are not alerts.
The five published categories
Unsafe Driving, Hours of Service, Driver Fitness, Controlled Substances, and Vehicle Maintenance are the categories FMCSA publishes. Each is a measure and an alert on the unlocked dossier. The measure is a raw figure, not a percent. When no SMS snapshot is on file, those fields stay empty.
Crash Indicator and HM Compliance stay padlocked for property carriers under the FAST Act. We do not invent those values.
Census ACTIVE does not mean a full file
Census status can say ACTIVE while the SMS snapshot is missing. The out-of-service flag can be on at the same time. There is no search for new carriers. Look up the USDOT on the tender.
Look up the USDOT
A Due Diligence Dossier costs $35 once and is a frozen snapshot with a SHA-256 hash of that PDF. Broker Pro costs $129/mo, watches up to 500 USDOTs, and sends a daily email when one is out of service or FMCSA’s alert flag is on.
Or read Broker Pro details.
Questions
What does a missing SMS snapshot mean?
The unlocked dossier says no SMS compliance snapshot is on file yet. The hashed PDF lists each published category as insufficient data, with no measure. That is not a passing score.
Does census ACTIVE mean a full safety file?
Census ACTIVE is the registration status. The carrier can be ACTIVE with no SMS snapshot, and the out-of-service flag can be on while census still says ACTIVE.
What does the $35 file keep when the snapshot is empty?
The $35 file freezes the carrier record from that day. With no SMS snapshot, the PDF shows a blank snapshot date and insufficient data for each published category. Power units, the driver count, and safety rating are on that file. Blank categories are not a passing score.
Need a Due Diligence Dossier?
Search the national active-carrier directory. A single-carrier Due Diligence Dossier is $35.

Broker Pro watches a CSV of up to 500 USDOTs and sends a daily email when one is out of service or FMCSA’s alert flag is on. The dossier keeps the measure, the alert, and the out-of-service status from that day, not a ranking we invented.
